Biography

Fresh faced Joel Owen has spent most of his life dedicated to music, but only actively began his career as recently as 2005 in his hometown of Leicester. Immediately producing a uniquely laid back blend of soulful, acoustic folk and blues beautifully iced with a voice most artists would cheerfully kill for. Impressing local crowds across the Midlands, by 2006 Joel had been talent spotted by one of the areas finest live venues who also had their own label; Musician Records, and a debut album with local distribution followed.

After a sell out opening night for the release of One Of Those Days Joel began to really stand out on the acoustic circuit in Leicester and over the following two years picked up a host of The next big thing and Artist Of The Month accolades. Performing across the country representing the Leicester Music Scene he went on to play three of the Midlands biggest festivals. Performances at The Big Session and City Acoustic and Blues Festival at De Montfort Hall led to a gig last summer opening the Summer Sundae Festival with a performance accompanied by percussion and saxophone.

The last eighteen months have been increasingly busy for Joel as his influences have continually changed both in music and in life. The idea of what could be possible by introducing a band to his songs soon began to form and Joel set about utilising the talent of several other renowned Leicester musicians and putting together the band which played alongside him on the new album Love and Music. Feeling the need to stretch his legs he also relocated to London and started working the acoustic and blues scened at venues like The Cobden Club, Bull and Gate, Café de Paris and Westbourne Studios.

With a new album release fast approaching, interest on radio has also picked up with live sessions and playouts on BBC Radio, Leicester Sound and Demon Fm plus insistent backing from music and culture magazine From Dawn 2 Dusk. A passionate performer in both full band and solo set up’s, playing regularly with and without the band across the Midlands and the capital a full tour to promote the album is planned soon.
