Sounding like Fleet Foxes got into a jam session with Paul Weller and Kasabian, Burning Shapes are the indie Brit rock sound of 2011.
Recently returned from supporting Mumford and Sons and The Stranglers to 10,000 people at Triumph Live in late 2010 the band have just completed recording their debut album with producer Joe Hirst (Bloc Party, Ian Brown, Razorlight, Beth Gibbons) and already have several tracks playlisted on BBC Radio’s Introducing and one featuring on the soundtrack to the £2m British feature film Lucid next year.
The band formed playing acoustic sessions and jams at parties at the tail end of the 90s; school friends Toby (lead vocals, guitar) and Dave (vocals, bass) soon recruited Toby’s cousin Andy (vocals, MPC, keys) to begin playing gigs in and around London. Performing as Sound Sanctuary they caught the attention of electronica producers Bombay Monkey and released a series of EPs on the Lo-Tek label with distribution via Pinnacle.
Critical acclaim and XFM airplay failed to break the band and after a full length album (Dust) was recorded, drummer Steve came in to replace the sampled loops and a completely different sound developed through their live shows. A UK small venue tour followed including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Festival, BBC Radio playlistings and a live set performance on Sky TV. Coming back off tour with a newly defined indie rock edge to the ambient 60’s pop harmonies the band renamed as Burning Shapes and hit the studio to record the new sound.
Recently wrapped on album mastering Toby, Dave, Andy and Steve have just completed shooting a music video to the first single release, “Drop”, which goes on release in July to be followed by national touring and the album release in late Autumn. Burning Shapes are exclusively represented by Coffee Artists.
